This ancient food staple is packed with all sorts of health and nutritional benefits, so it’s about time to get keen on Quinoa! Here’s what you need to know:

Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is a grain-like food from South America that has been cultivated for thousands of years. It is considered as one of the healthier sources of cereals with high levels of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. When eaten, Quinoa satiates hunger for a longer period of time leading to less overeating.

Boasting a 16% daily value in protein, Quinoa contains all nine essential amino acids in protein which are crucial to the body’s basic functions. The seed provides benefits ranging from faster muscle repair to improved circulation of oxygen throughout the body. It has also been linked to the prevention of certain diseases like diabetes and breast cancer.

This gluten-free food is known to be a strong source of minerals, vitamins and dietary fiber. Quinoa has more calcium than red meat and also has characteristics that aid healthy weight loss. The seed is rich in the vitamin Riboflavin, which helps keep cells in good condition. Quinoa’s most notable minerals include manganese, iron, and phosphorus – all of which help to maintain a healthy blood flow.

Quinoa is known is also convenient to prepare. Its average cooking time is around 15 minutes - which is pretty short compared to other common carbohydrates! Once prepared, a recipe as simple as a little olive oil and lemon juice can be added for a final touch.
