Marta
The Golden Touch
Everything Marta Vieira Da Silva touches seem to turn into either gold or goals. Her football career is unrivalled thus far. She has been named FIFA World Player of the Year for 5 consecutive years from 2006-2010. She helped lead the women’s Brasilian National Team to silver medals in 2004 and 2008. And at the 2007 World Cup, she was awarded the Golden Ball (top player) and Golden Boot (top scorer). Born with Brasilian football in her blood, she is often compared to the greatest Brasilian male football legends of all time. Through the years, Marta has taken her skills on a world tour. She started off at Umeå IK – picking up trophies, titles, and fluency in Swedish – followed by Santos in Brasil before joining the WPS in the US with FC Gold Pride in 2010 and Western New York Flash in 2011… But one thing is missing: that Brasilian world title. Marta looks forward to 2015 for that reason and more.
