Tony Mutter brings a boatload of sailing know-how to this year’s team.

“I’m getting on a bit now and have done the race quite a few times. Our team’s age mix is a good thing – you have youthful enthusiasm and older guys giving direction when needed.”

Mutter joins PUMA after sailing onboard Volvo Ocean Race 08/09 winner Ericsson 4.  Mutter has sailed four Volvos (winning twice), five Fastnet Races and five Maxi Worlds.  He has been part of three Volvo crews where the 24-hour monohull record has been broken. As aerodynamics coordinator, he works closely with North Sails to design the next generation of VO70 sails.

Mutter will be missing his home and family in New Zealand during this trek—almost as much as he’ll be missing barbecues and cooking shows, of which he’s an avid fan.
