After an exciting opening weekend of Bundesliga football, here is our round up of this weekend’s action from the Stuttgart and Hoffenheim games...

Stuttgart 3 – 0 Schalke
Playing in their newly renovated Mercedes-Benz Arena stadium, Stuttgart brushed aside a Schalke team to take an early spot at the top of the Bundesliga. Caucau, Harnik and Okazaki took full advantage of the shaky Schalke back line to give Stuttgart an emphatic 3-0 win. Stuttgart dominated the opening exchanges, but it wasn’t until the 37th minute when a corner was headed goal ward for Caucau to open his and Stuttgart’s account for the season. Schalke came out stronger in the second half, though Stuttgart managed to double their advantage when in the 56th minute, a Molinaro left wing cross was met by Harnik who couldn’t miss from six yards. The game was sealed in the 89th minute when Okazaki cut in from the right flank to place a left-footed shot past the floundering Schalke keeper. With Borussia Moenchengladbach up next, do you think they can maintain their 100% record?

Hannover 2 -1 Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim opened their season against a Hannover side coming off the back of an impressive 2010-2011 that saw them finish 4th in the Bundesliga and qualifying for Europe.
The game started equally, but in the 15th minute Hoffenheim went behind from a Schlaudraff free kick into the top left hand corner. Hoffenheim bounced straight back with Fabian Johnson drawing a foul in the penalty area in the 18th minute. Sejad Salihovic duly stepped up and converted the penalty to make the game 1-1. The tables were turned on Hoffenheim in the 30th minute when Edson Braafheid conceded a penalty, which Hannover smashed home. Hoffenheim tried to get back into the game, but to no avail. They will be looking to turn their fortunes around next weekend when they take on current champions Borrusia Dortmund. Have what it takes to bag their first in of the season?
