The ascent to club football's highest summit has reached the notoriously treacherous knock-out stages. Only Europe's top 16 teams continue beyond this point.
But this morning, the path to the ultimate prize was placed into the hands of the gods. The Champions League last 16 draw was made as follows:
AC Milan v Tottenham Hotspur
Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk
Valencia v Schalke
Inter Milan v Bayern Munich
Lyon v Real Madrid
Arsenal v Barcelona
Marseille v Manchester United
Copenhagen v Chelsea
For the second year running Arsenal draw Barcelona in the last 16 round. Giants clash as Inter take on Bayern Munich. Manchester United and Chelsea will be expecting to progress whilst being acutely aware of the dangers that accompany any Champions League fixture.
Our attention, however, will be largely focused on the debutants, Tottenham Hotspur. The new boys have drawn Serie-A leaders, AC Milan; a seemingly harsh draw given they finished top of their group.
Nonetheless, if their last performance at the San Siro was anything to go by, we should be in for a nail-biting match. How far can Harry Redknapp take them?
