Sadly for the Indomitable Lions, this was not the case for them - it was an unexpected start. They pushed and pushed to get an equalizer against Japan, but were denied by the bar, the notable goalie Eiji Kawashima and just mere inability to break through the tight and well-organized Japanese defense. But hats off for Japan for making history as they clinched their first win outside Japanese soil in the World Cup. Question now is if the Lions will rise and manage to advance to the knockout stages? Two tough games against Denmark and Holland left, but everything is possible in football.
Next up is Gil Azzuri against Paraguay. Almost crazy how the reigning World Champions are almost seen as underdogs in this tournament. Hopefully they can prove their doubters wrong and impress the world once again. The line up looks good, and with players like Buffon, Chiellini and Camoranesi they look strong from behind – let’s hope for a game with molti, molti gol.
