Spurs started the game nervously trying to work out what their opponent’s game plan was with the only chance for Spurs early on with van Der Vaart shooting wide.
AC Milan dominated the first half with some fluent football with Gomes saving well from an Ibrahimovic free kick. Harry’s men however defended like heroes, with Gallas clearing off his own line from a deflected shot from Robinho.
The second half started better for Spurs with Lennon proving a constant danger down the right flank crossing for Peter Crouch on the back post. Unfortunately Crouch could only head back across goal in this instance. With Sandro beginning to run the midfield, producing an immense box to box midfield display, Spurs were able to attack more and looked less nervous than the first half.
In injury time, the whole of White Hart Lane had their hearts in their mouths as Seedorf bought the ball up from the back and then combined superbly with Ibrahimovic and Robinho only for Gallas to block Robinhos shot for it to go out for a corner.
When the final whistle went White Hart Lane erupted into a chorus of cheers and chants celebrating Spurs great achievement of reaching the final 8! This was not a vintage display of attacking football from Spurs but more a demonstration of how far they have come under Redknapp with their ability to defend a 1-0 lead.
Special mentions have to go to Sandro, Dawson and Gallas who defended magnificently against 2 world class strikers in Robinho and Ibrahimovic.
With Shaktar, Schalke and Barcelona through already who would you like to see Spurs play in the next round?
