Ivory Coast

Larger Than Life

Until 2005, the Ivory Coast national team’s greatest accomplishment was winning the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations® against Ghana on penalties in Dakar, Senegal. In October 2005, the Elephants qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, marking their first appearance on the sport’s greatest stage. It was no surprise to see them qualify for a repeat appearance in 2010. Unfortunately, both qualifications landed them in the so-called, notorious ‘Group of Death,’ and they did not advance to the knock-out stages. Despite the obstacles that cross their pitch, the team is forever a strong contender, with plenty of talent to go around. Their young players are building careers in club teams the world over, hereby giving the Ivory Coast a solid reputation in World football.
