Day 1

It's the first day of racing and PUMA is ready to go.

The first of two major Saturdays is upon us and it would be silly to suggest we aren’t massively anxious. It’s been a very long time anticipating and preparing for “day one” of this regatta and we’re finally there.

The game plan is a simple one – race like we’ve trained, sail clean and sail hard; there’s no question that everyone is up to the task. The new course will throw new obstacles our way (read: practice race), but in all likeliness the team that is going to succeed is the team that best deals with a little unexpected adversity and stays out of trouble.

Conditions look a little wet and a little windy, but this is the Volvo Ocean Race, right? It’s time to strap on the foulies and enjoy the ride!

Live coverage begins at 1:45 PM local time (2 PM start), and can be seen at volvooceanrace.com or youtube.com/volvooceanracevideos. The race is expected to last about one hour.
