For many of the competitors, the Great North CityGames meet served as a tune-up for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. PUMA Athlete Mark Lewis-Francis (MLF) proved he is ready to compete winning the 100m in 10.12. Aaron Rouge-Serret of Australia finished second in 10.30, and Jacob Groth also from Australia took third (10.41).
Post-race MLF commented, "That's what I needed. I needed to get a good run in the bag. I'm still in form, I'm staying consistent, I'm staying in shape. We'll see what surprises I can pull out of the bag. I like surprises."
With MLF's win along with fellow English teammates, England took the win over Australia (5 to 4).
