Off to Auckland! The team has overcome many obstacles – broken masts, rough sailing conditions, even pirates! – to get this far. And there’s no doubt that they’re looking forward to docking in this beautiful, volcanic corner of New Zealand.
Located in the North Island of New Zealand, Auckland has a warm-temperate climate, with warm, humid summers and mild, damp winters. Auckland is located within the Auckland Volcanic Field, which has produced about 50 volcanoes, as well as cones, lakes, lagoons, and islands. (Don’t worry, the volcanoes are all considered extinct.) The mix of rock and sea makes Auckland a lovely stopping point along the race route. And if you happen to be in Auckland, make sure to stop by and say hi to our crew—several are New Zealand natives!
