Will the Black Stars Shock England?

This evening Ghana take on England at Wembley Stadium for the first ever clash between these two sides!

England coach Fabio Capello has opted for an experimental line-up with Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Andy Carroll set to start for the hosts, whilst Ghana will use the game to once again demonstrate the meteoric rise of African football.

England are expected to rest some star names, but John Mensah explained to PUMA what the fixture means to him and his compatriots:

"The game against England is very important for me, my colleagues and my fellow Ghanaians.  If you go back in our history, England was the country we achieved independence from and we are very excited to meet them in a friendly game like this. It will be not easy, England are a big team and they are well known and respected in Africa. This game is both very important and historic for Ghana."

We’ve been studying the form closely and it promises to be a close clash! The Ghanaians have done well lately under Goran Stevanovic and chalked up decent wins against Togo and more recently, Congo in the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifying. Stevanovic has a full squad to choose from and Asamoah Gyan returns after sitting out the Nations Cup qualifier in Brazzaville due to suspension. The Sunderland star has been a huge hit in his debut Premiership season and looks set to lead the line for the Black Stars.

In contrast England have looked far from their best and Fabio Capello will be hoping Gareth Barry will rise to the occasion as captain in the absence of John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney.

Ghana are currently ranked 16th in world football and have a squad of players in Europe’s top leagues including Premiership regulars Sulley Muntari, John Mensah, Richard Kingson and John Paintsil, whilst England’s players have struggled to replicate their club form at international level.

What do you think the score will be? Will the Black Stars shock England for an historic win?
