The Azzurri Reign Against Spain
August 11, 2011Yesterday evening saw 2006 World Champions Italy take on current World Champions Spain in an exhilarating encounter in Bari. PUMA Football stars Ginaluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini starting for an Azzurri team looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Ireland back in June.

Winners of the PUMA Mascot Design Competition
August 25, 2010Ahead of the 2010 tournaments, the PUMA Mascot Design competition invited students at selected universities in Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana and Tunisia to create a mascot design symbolizing their national team and the perception of football in their country. The students were inspired by joy, hope, pride, honor, and glory to produce either a sculpture, picture, or painting. Selecting winners from so many beautiful and inspiring entries was extremely difficult, and we would like to thank all of the fans who shared with us their vision of what their national team means to them, and how to reflect this in a mascot. We are pleased and proud to present the chosen winners for each participating country.

Italy Held Back by New Zealand and Ivory Coast's Avid Samba Game Against Brazil
June 20, 2010We must begin with the highly anticipated game between Brazil and Ivory Coast. Brazil, with the World Cup's oldest squad (average 29 years), looked several time better than in their last game against North Korea. It was a different team our Les Elephants were facing and it was a game full of energy and passion.

USA's Comeback and Algeria's Historic Achievement!
June 18, 2010USA did what no other team has accomplished in the World Cup since Ivory Coast against Serbia-Montenegro in 2006: coming back from 2 goals down as they drew against Slovenia. But it should have been a win, right? Still a bit puzzled why Edu's last goal was ruled out. At halftime, no much looked in USA's favor after two very nice goals from Slovenia, but it was a different United States that entered the pitch in the second half. A US that went for goals, played really well and showed admirable team spirit. A draw might have been fair over 90-minutes because Slovenia, with just above 2 million citizens and one World Cup appearance (2002 ending in 3 defeats), has really proved themselves a worthy challenger.

Kiwi-shocker, Les Elephants Stunner - and Brazilian Samba
June 15, 2010We obviously begin with the highly anticipated game between Portugal and Les Elephants. And wow did our boys from Ivory Coast make us proud (rhetorical question). Even without Drogba in their starting 11, they proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in this World Cup. Not sure if it was their speed, quick passing, great movement from the whole team across the pitch, but they sure didn't make Portugal look their best. There was an amazing strike that hit the post from Cristiano Ronaldo in the early minutes of the game, but that felt like about all for the Portuguese.

June 13, 2010On Drogba's importance to Ivory Coast:
Drogba is obviously so important to Ivory Coast, he scores many goals for them and he would be a loss for any team in the World if he is not fit. I know him so well from Chelsea, and have so much respect for his ability and his impact on the pitch. He is so strong. But of course they have other players who can fill in for him, and while he will be a loss for them if he doesn't play, the team is not about one player and we have to be wary of so many of their other players when we meet them. But of course I hope that he doesn?t play when we meet him, it would be much better for us!

June 07, 2010It is 24 years since Algeria last qualified for a World Cup and now having done so at the expense of bitter rivals Egypt, the Desert Foxes face the challenge of qualifying from a tough Group C which includes England, Slovenia and the USA. To succeed they'll need the power and goals of AEK Athens striker Rafik Djebbour. Talking exclusively to PUMAFootball following a Les Fennecs training session in Germany, the French-born forward talks frankly about the team's World Cup tactics, the dark side of football and why Wayne Rooney is a typical Algerian!
