Irish national team

The Irish national team played their first ever match in 1875 against England in a match that ended in a narrow 7-0 defeat. Historicaly Ireland have had a tought time in the World Cup. Since its introduction in 1987 the furthest they have reached is the quarter finals. Ireland, however are much more successful in the annual Six Nations Series having won the event 11 times and shared it a further 8 times. Ireland also have eight former players that have earned an induction to into the International Rugby Hall of Fame, with five of them also having earned induction into the IRB Hall of Fame. They are currently ranked 6th in World Rugby.
