Day one of the 2012 Mt. SAC Relays is in the books, and as expected, we saw some seriously fast performances! Opening with the 1,500m, ramping up to the 3,000m steeplechase, and closing on the 10,000m the opening act of Mt. SAC has definitely set the tone for the rest of this weekend’s events.
The top times of the day went to: Ashley Higginson in the women’s 1,500m running 4 minutes, 18.5 seconds, Rico Loy of Iowa State in the men’s 1,500m at 3 minutes 43.18 seconds, Evan Jager in the men’s steeplechase at 8 minutes 26.14 seconds, Kara Millhouse of Penn State in the women’s 10,000m at 33 minutes 31.37 seconds, and Stephen Sambu of Arizona in the men’s 10,000m running 28 minutes 6.16 seconds.
Without a doubt, though, the top performance of day one has to go to our very own PUMA athlete, Korene Hinds of Jamaica in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes 42.27 seconds! Trailing with a few laps to go, Korene unleashed a devastatingly fast rally to not only take the lead in impressive style, but also post the world’s top time for women in 2012 to date! We’re proud to congratulate Korene on an outstanding race and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next two days!
