After a grueling 3.8km swim (2.36 miles), a 180km cycle (111.85 miles), and a 42.2km run (26.2 miles), Tissink finished in a time of 8:23:28! This was South Africa?s first Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa Champion since 2005, when Tissink last won the event. Tissink took the lead for the first time during the running event. He passed the second-place finisher, Switzerland?s Mathias Hecht, after 20km into the run and finished the marathon in a solid time of 2:52:08!
This was Tissink?s sixth Ironman Champion title. He won the Ironman Korea in 2002 and 2007, Ironman Canada in 2003, Ironman South Africa and Austria in 2005, and now Ironman South Africa again in 2010. He also has eleven other top-five finishes as an Ironman.
PUMA Running celebrates Tissink?s incredible accomplishment!
