On Monday at the Rolex Fastnet Race off the British coast, skipper George David’s Rambler 100 capsized. All 21 crew onboard were rescued.
PUMA’s Mar Mostro skipper Ken Read and team has sent their thoughts and prayers to their great friends and teammates on Rambler and applaud them for their seamanship and rescue in terrible circumstances. Rambler 100 served as a training boat for the PUMA Ocean Racing team.
“Racing these boats is not for the faint of heart and safety is always in the front of our minds when the breeze is up,” Read said. “You have to push, but you also have to be ready if things go bad. Fortunately, it sounds like the guys did a miraculous job literally at a moment’s notice."
"I sincerely hope that the sailing world lets the dust settle prior to jumping to conclusions on this matter. Let the Rambler team have a moment to regroup, and then we can all hopefully learn from this near tragedy. That is the key."
"I received a note from George David saying that all of them are healthy and we will be able to debrief with them at the appropriate time."
