PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG leaves the dock in Sanya, China to begin Leg 4, Stage 1, the “Buddha course” – an approximate 40 nautical mile round trip to Sanya Nanshan Temple's Buddha statue and back to the start line.

Leg 4 has been split in to two stages due to a tropical cyclone with up to 11-meter waves in the South China Sea. The fleet will start Stage 2 on Monday, February 20 with a staggered departure on the second stage of Leg 4 in the order they finished Stage 1 of the leg.

EPISODE 7: REVERSE THE CURSE

PART TWO: STILL IN THIS TO WIN

The PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG team suffered a broken mast onboard PUMA's Mar Mostro in the South Atlantic Ocean on November 21, 2011, 17 days after the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 from Alicante, Spain. The team was more then 2,100 nautical miles from their intended destination of Cape Town, South Africa and were forced to retire from Leg 1 of the race.

After motoring to the remote island of Tristan da Cunha, where the team spent six days, they were picked up by the Team Bremen - a cargo ship. PUMA's Mar Mostro was carefully placed into an onboard cradle in a rare open sea load, and the crew and boat then traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, to join the rest of the fleet and prepare for Leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race.

The PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG team is back in the saddle for Leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12. After bidding farewell to Cape Town, South Africa, PUMA's Mar Mostro experienced some light winds and slow sailing as they head to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the third port of the race round the world.

EPISODE 6: AND THEN THE MAST FELL OVER THE SIDE

PART ONE: 2,100 Miles From Nowhere

The PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG team suffered a broken mast onboard PUMA's Mar Mostro in the South Atlantic Ocean on November 21, 2011, 17 days after the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12 from Alicante, Spain. The team was more then 2,100 nautical miles from their intended destination of Cape Town, South Africa and were forced to retire from Leg 1 of the race.

After around the clock efforts from the crew and shore team, PUMA's Mar Mostro was able to refuel and motor to the remote island of Tristan da Cunha.

SHOREFEED: December 7

PUMA's Mar Mostro is ready to sail again.

After working through the night, the PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG shore team completed the replacement mast installation. Sea trial tested, PUMA's Mar Mostro is race ready and focused on the official start of Leg 2.

PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG arrives in Cape Town, South Africa.

On December 6, 17 days after a dismasting at sea, PUMA's Mar Mostro finally tied up at the V&A Waterfront. During the unexpected journey to Cape Town, the crew faced one challenge after another - a search for fuel, six days on the most remote inhabited island on earth and a rare open sea transfer to a giant container ship.

Now the team faces yet another hurdle: repairing Mar Mostro in time to race again.

BOATFEED: December 3 - 4

PUMA's Mar Mostro arrived to Tristan da Cunha on November 26. Tristan served as a safe haven for the PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG team after their boat was dismasted in the South Atlantic Ocean on November 21.

A huge rescue effort was launched to get the team and boat to Cape Town, South Africa in time for the start of Leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race round the world. Container ship Team Bremen picked up PUMA's Mar Mostro from Tristan da Cunha on December 2. PUMA will have a four day trip to Cape Town, leaving the team with only a few days to spare to get their boat race-ready.

The PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG team continues their exploration of Tristan da Cunha.

Skipper Ken Read served as tour guide through Tristan's lobster plant, and the crew hiked to the top of Queen Mary's Peak, a 6,700-foot volcano.

BOATFEED: November 27

PUMA's Mar Mostro arrives at the remote island Tristan da Cunha.

After safely anchoring the boat, the crew accepted an invitation to play at the Tristan Golf Course. Along with enjoying the beautiful nine-hole course, the PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG team learned how the locals define a hazard.

The most remote island in the world is finally within reach of PUMA's Mar Mostro. The crew prepares to anchor off the shores of Tristan da Cuhna, a small island in the South Atlantic Ocean inhabited by only 262 people and a large volcano.

Tristan da Cuhna is known as the world's most isolated settlement...and now as home to the PUMA Ocean Racing powered by BERG crew for the next few days.

Mustaches out, dolphins in - superstition is alive and well onboard PUMA's Mar Mostro. A plentifully Thanksgiving feast, continual boat repairs and a visit from some playful companions wrap up another day at sea.

Legends say a ship accompanied by dolphins was sure to find safe harbor, fair weather, and following seas. We hope this holds true as PUMA's Mar Mostro approaches the distant shores of Tristan da Cunha.

LEG 1 RETIRED: Headed for Tristan da Cunha

A bad day at sea can be better than a good day on land.  Check in on PUMA's Mar Mostro as the crew keeps busy recycling ocean litter, trolling for fish and getting what they can out of their jury rigged storm sail.

Leg 1 RETIRED: South Atlantic Ocean

PUMA's Mar Mostro suffered a broken mast on November 21, 2011 during the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12.

 At approximately 18:00 GMT on November 23, the container ship Zim Monaco arrived to deliver 450 litres of diesel fuel to PUMA's Mar Mostro. It was determined by Mar Mostro crew and shore team that diesel was necessary for survival - with it the crew can make fresh water and continue under motor power toward the island of Tristan da Cuhna.

PUMA's Mar Mostro suffered a broken mast on November 21, 2011 during the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12, which began November 5, 2011 in Alicante, Spain. The rig onboard Mar Mostro failed at approximately 15:00 UTC in the South Atlantic Ocean, about 2,150 nautical miles from Cape Town, South Africa.

EQUATOR CROSSING: The Initiation

PUMA's Mar Mostro crossed the equator on November 17, 2011. King Neptune, Queen Codfish and the rest of the seasoned shellbacks onboard joined in to properly initiate young pollywogs Amory Ross and Rome Kirby on their first crossing.

At zero degrees latitude, the equator crossing is a time honored tradition and rite of passage for sailors. It is believed showing reverence to the sea and its gods ensures the boat and crew a safe passage around the world.
