Did Uruguay Silence the Vuvuzelas Now?

Bafana Bafana did their best and fought hard. Problem is that they met a well-organized Uruguayan side that played with equal Latin intensity and European shrewdness. They hinted against France that they are here to play football and they cemented it against South Africa.

With a virtuous Diego Forlan leading a three-pronged forward line allows the Uruguayans to play tactical with numerous players behind the ball, and almost depend their whole offensive strategy on the revitalized striker, a responsibility he seems to grow with. Two goals (one on a penalty following another harsh red card on goalie Itumeleng Khune) put him alone on top of the goal-scoring chart.

A reflection so far, is that no South American team (Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay) has yet lost and is, a bit surprisingly one must admit, playing great defense, and Uruguay is no exception.

Uruguay is playing exactly like a team should in a World Cup. Better and better in each game. Now that might be a bit early to say after only two games, one might say. But remind you that the maximum amount of games to play is seven. Two down for the Uruguayans – five to go?
