    The afternoon training yesterday was high-spirited (maybe shopping has that effect?) We noticed something quite unique about the method the Algerians have to start off to kick-start the training. They played a game in a circle where they passed the ball kicking with the foot. If the ball hits the ground, the one who let it fall gets flicked on the ear by their teammates.

    For those in the know, there's no question that Asamoah Gyan is going to be one of the big names to emerge from the World Cup in South Africa. Earlier this year, the striker fired the Black Stars to the African Cup of Nations final and now he intends to blow apart the defences of Serbia, Germany and Australia in Group E.     We asked Gervinho why he changed his name from Gervais Yao Kouassi to 'Gervinho'?

    "When you get in the football squad at ASEC Abidjan they give you a nickname," he explained. "Because we have a Brazilian coach, we're given Brazilian names. So, everyone in this current squad has a nickname: mine is Gervinho, his [pointing to his interpreting team-mate] is Kalouno. It's basically a variation of your name. My full name is Gervais Yao Kouassi, so the Gervinho comes from Gervais. For me, since then the name just stuck!"
